I need some ideas on finding a nice girl?

I've had pleanty of girl friends but in the last year or so a few girls made my life a living hell as a result I've been having a terrible time trusting women altogether. I'm miserably lonely but I can't seem to help it if a girl flirts with me I shut down. I say a bunch of one word responses until she stops and I couldn't hope of flirting with a girl myself I get petrified how do I break out of this I think if I could meet a nice girl maybe even date her I'd stop being so shy and definately stop being so lonely but how can I if I can't even talk to her I know this sounds pathetic but I've had a serious trauma so save the remarks I need some help
