If we evolved from cavemen how did pedigree dogs survive?

how is it all dogs are not mixed breed as dogs would have just bread with any other dog so all dogs would be mongrels and if they were can you you make a pedigree from mongrel because i cant see dogs sticking to their own breed . If we were drawing on cave walls we would not have kept them pure
