My sister was laid off from work. She is 8 months pregnant. is this legal?

A couple of weeks ago she was was told that her job may be in jeopardy. She asked if FMLA protected her since she was pregnant. She was told that they(management) had ways around that. Yesterday she was laid off. As you can imagine she is a wreck. She is 8 months pregnant and 2 kids already in day care. Is it legal for them to do that? Does she have any chance and a court case or at getting some type of funding to aid in the care of the children she already has as well as the one she is expecting?
