Hi. I've recently had to file a 1099 dispute with a family I work for because they are claiming I made almost?
double what they actually paid me for the year. This would benefit them greatly, because it reduces their taxable income. I don't know if they pegged me for an idiot, or just umed because I am younger I wouldn't have kept track of my income, but I did. However, that is not an issue. It's recently been brought to my attention that the mother of the family asked another mother of a family I worked for if they had my social security number. The mother of the other family asked the husband to root through my old tax forms from when I worked at his small business when I was in highschool to give to the family asking for the social security number. IS THIS ILLEGAL FOR THEM TO DO? The husband absolutely refused to do it, telling his wife that would be illegal on his part to give out my security number to them, THANK GOD, but I want to know if it is against the law for them to have even ASKED for such clified information without going straight to the source, (ME). I want to know my rights, and what I should do in this situation, because I've obviously fell victim to a really crooked family trying to sneak around behind my back and making false tax doents and spreadsheets. HELP!
