How to put a lien on a car after the title is transferred?

My car was sold to a friend, or what i thought was a friend by verbal commitment that he would pay installments. No payments have been made with no intention of any coming. Due to my lack of judgment I've already transferred the title into his name. Is there any way I could put a lien on this if I get some sort of written proof that he owes me for the car.
